Lessna
Lessna which, in Swedish, means sadness and Far which
you would think meant distance but merely translates as papa. My mother
hardly spoke any English. She knew no one. She had no job: I was too young.
She had no books. My father came back late or not at all. I was the only
thing that kept her from going mad, and yes I was also the anchor. We would
sit in the park for hours and she would weep; I was unable to comfort her
so I sat close by and cried as well. I was often so dizzy from crying, my
mind so chaotic, that I would hallucinate: she, I, our tears, and the bench
had fused into one lump of ice, a frozen jet of water. We were trapped here
forever.
